Women playing bigger role in Islamic State terror operations
Women are playing an increasing role in the terrorist organisation Islamic State, both in supportive roles and as active jihadists.
There are currently more than 70,000 women in Kurdish camps and the Islamic State group is relying on them as part of a future resurgence.
Lydia Khalil, research fellow at the West Asia program at the Lowy Institute, said greater female participation in jihad will have a profound influence on counterterrorism efforts around the world.
