US Destroys Pro-Iranian Militia Targets in Iraq and Syria: “Good Results”

The United States has successfully destroyed the majority of the targets attacked in Syria and Iraq in retaliation for attacks on its troops in Jordan. The Pentagon reported that more than 80 targets across seven facilities were destroyed or functionally damaged in the attacks. The number of casualties is still being assessed.

The US targeted 85 facilities in Syria and Iraq linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and pro-Iranian militias. Since the bombing, American forces have experienced two attacks in the area, but no casualties or material damage were reported.

The Pentagon has made it clear that they reserve the right to defend their personnel from attacks by Iranian-backed militants in Iraq. President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin have both stated that the US response to the attacks will continue at the “time and places” they consider appropriate.

The United States Central Command confirmed an attack against two Houthi unmanned vessels in areas of Yemen controlled by the rebel group, which represented an imminent threat to US Navy ships and merchant ships in the region. The vessels operate on the surface of the water without a crew on board.

The Houthis have denounced new bombings launched by the US and the United Kingdom against the port city of Al Hodeida, while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has begun his tour of the Middle East. These attacks come after a large-scale operation against Houthi positions in Yemen, targeting 36 targets in 13 different locations in the Arab country.
