UK security chief: Facebook’s encryption undermines our counter-terror efforts
Facebook’s plans for end-to-end encryption will undermine UK intelligence agencies’ ability to stop terrorists killing innocent people, the Home Office’s head of national security has warned in an unprecedented submission to the US senate.
In a 15 page report, Chloe Squires also warned that Facebook’s plans would mean the tech giant would be unable to prevent almost 3,000 children a year continuing to be “abused, raped and degraded and have their lives ruined.”
The Government with its Five Eyes partners is seeking “lawful access” to encrypted messages to prevent terror attacks, child abuse and other criminality which they claim would flourish under Facebook’s plans to extend end-to-end encryption.
