U.S. Acknowledges Turkey’s Role in Coalition Against ISIS

Despite disagreements on specific issues with Turkish partners, McCary affirmed the U.S.’s commitment to ongoing counterterrorism collaboration with the Turkish government.

McCary also noted that the U.S. and Turkey are in dialogue about the fight against ISIS in other regions, including Africa. The emphasis on Turkey’s role in monitoring developments in Sub-Saharan African countries highlights the breadth of the coalition’s efforts. The global coalition against ISIS, formed by the U.S. in 2014, comprises 86 member countries and institutions, all tasked with reclaiming control of areas in Iraq and Syria from ISIS.
