Two US soldiers injured in bombing in eastern Syria
Two American soldiers were wounded when “Iranian factions” bombed a base of the international coalition to fight ISIS in northeastern Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the base, which is located in the Al-Omar field, was subjected to two rounds of bombing, and that “the coalition forces responded by firing two shells at the Al-Mayadin desert” in the countryside of Deir Ezzor near the Iraqi border.
And US officials confirmed that “American soldiers were slightly injured in a missile attack.” The officials added that “one of the soldiers has already been treated and has been discharged from the hospital, while the second is undergoing tests to detect a brain injury.”
This attack, which came hours after three Katyusha rockets landed at the Kaurkosk oil refinery in Erbil, northwestern Iraq, is the first of its kind in nearly 3 months, when, on January 5, it targeted “Iranian militias with three missiles at the Al-Omar oil field.” The largest base belonging to the coalition,” according to “Al-Marsad.”
On the other hand, the Syrian “Ain al-Furat” website said yesterday that “unidentified gunmen launched a missile attack on the (Zamla al-Mahr 1) oil field, near Palmyra, in the eastern Homs countryside, which is under Iranian control.” He added that “the field controlled by the Lebanese (Hezbollah) is being held.”
It was bombed by twelve (Grad) missiles, which landed near a control center and some oil installations. He pointed out that “the attack resulted in the injury of five elements of varying severity, and they were taken to a nearby field hospital.”
