Two Islamic State insurgents captured in Iraq’s Maysan
A couple of Islamic State (IS) insurgents were captured on Monday in the Iraqi province of Maysan, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, a spokesperson for the ministry, told Al-Sumariyah News that two were arrested by the counter-terrorism forces, noting that they had been wanted on terror charges.
Legal procedures were taken against the pair and they were taken to the competent authorities for the purpose of interrogation, according to the spokesperson.
The Islamic State was announced defeated in late 2017, but the extremist group’s sleeper cells are still active in most of the liberated areas in Iraq.
