Türkiye Arrests 7 Foreign Members of ISIS
The Turkish counter-terrorism forces arrested seven foreign fighters from the terrorist ISIS group in a security operation in Istanbul.
Security sources said on Sunday that the counter-terrorism troops raided ten addresses in six areas in Istanbul to arrest “foreign terrorist fighters”.
Their nationalities weren’t disclosed.
Seven foreign ISIS fighters were captured and taken to Istanbul Security Directorate where investigations remain ongoing.
The sources added that during the raid, a total of 12 illegal migrants were arrested and referred to deportation centers.
Since 2017, Turkish authorities have launched security campaigns against ISIS, resulting in the arrest of thousands of members, deportation of thousands of others, and preventing thousands from entering the country.
Last week, Turkish Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya said 17 members involved in funding ISIS were arrested in a campaign that included 20 residences and seven workplaces in Istanbul.
He stressed that the battle against terrorist organizations and collaborators would continue, and the financial resources of terrorists would be dried up one after the other.
Last week, the counter-terrorism forces arrested 54 Turkish and foreign ISIS members.
Days ago, counter-terrorism forces arrested 33 Iraqis and Syrians, who are members of the terrorist group, as part of a security campaign in the capital Ankara.
The security forces in coordination with the counter-terrorism division carried out a security campaign that included the storming of 39 addresses in Ankara to arrest 39 wanted individuals of ISIS members, the Ankara Security Directorate said.
Police nabbed 33 suspects, including 31 Iraqis and two Syrian nationals.
The suspects will be handed over to a local repatriation center in Ankara after concluding the necessary security measures.
ISIS claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks in Türkiye between 2015 and 2017, which killed more than 300 and wounded dozens. Türkiye designed the group as a terrorist in 2013.
