Turkey released Islamic State terrorist who recorded burning of two Turkish soldiers in Syria

The Islamic State (ISIS)’s Turkish fighter Ömer Yetek, who had recorded and later released a video footage of the burning of Turkish soldiers in northern Syria in 2016, was released pending trial on 16 April 2020, ANKA news site reported on Thursday.

Ömer Yetek, an employee of the “media ministry” of ISIS, was captured in Ankara in 2018, according to the same local reports.

After his testimony was taken at the Ankara Anti-Terrorism Department in 2018, Yetek was referred to a courthouse, report said.

The probe about Yetek, who was arrested, sent to Istanbul based on the case of “foreign plea”, ANKA noted.

Thereafter, Yetek was released pending trial on April 16, 2020, while the trial against him was continuing in Istanbul.

The name of Yetek had also appeared in the file of the October 10 Ankara Massacre case as a witness, ANKA said.

In his testimony in 2018, Yetek had listed the names of several ISIS militants who were responsible for organizing the attacks in Turkey, ANKA added.

Yetek’s whereabouts are currently unknown, the Turkish stories on the subject reported.

It was one week ago when the Turkish public learned that an ISIS judge, who had allegedly made the ruling of executing two Turkish soldiers by burning in northern Syria, was freely living in Turkey’s south-eastern city of Gaziantep, Halktv reported. After the report published, the Turkish authorities rearrested Jamal Abdul Rahman Alwi, 64, a Syrian national.
