Troops Ambush Terrorists, Kill Five In Lake Chad

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have killed five suspected members of Boko Haram terrorist group in Mallam Fatori — one of the farthest Nigerian towns and military outposts.

The troops operating under sector 3 eliminated the terrorists on Sunday, following a gun battle that ensued after the assailants attacked the troops’ location.

Mallam Fatori is the headquarters of Abadam Local Government, one of the largest and most deserted towns in northern Borno.

In a statement issued Monday by the Chief Military Information Officer, HQ MNJTF N’djamena, Chad, Lieu. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the counter-attack operation forced the remaining insurgents to flee the scene with gunshot wounds.

The statement said, “In a relentless hot pursuit, the troops chased down the fleeing terrorists, causing them to abandon a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

“Among the items recovered from the terrorists include one PKM Machine Gun with 200 link belt rounds, 2 AK-47 Rifles, 2 Hand Grenades, 5 Magazines, 3 empty PKM links, a Techno mobile phone, and a sum of fifteen thousand Naira (N15,000) in cash.”

Commending the troops, MNJTF Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali applauded the troops for their bravery and commitment to the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad Region.

“The resolute actions of the MNJTF forces serve as a testament to their dedication to restoring peace and security in the area, sending a clear message to all terrorist elements that their reign of terror will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
