Tribal leader urges members to take arms against the Islamic State terrorists

As a result of a dramatic increase in Islamic State (IS) attacks in the province, a tribal leader in Iraq’s Diyala has called on his tribe’s members to take arms and combat the insurgent group.

Iraqi reports cited Abdulsamad Zirgushi as saying that his tribe is ready to begin fighting the militants wherever needed.

He further noted that more than 400 members of his tribe have so far been killed by the IS extremists since 2014.

Only this month, the insurgents have carried out several attacks on the Iraqi forces, pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias, and other Sunni militias.
