Tourists warned of ISIS terror plot to attack Christmas markets in Europe
US officials have warned tourists attending Christmas markets across Europe this winter could be in danger of a deadly ISIS terror attack.
Intelligence services say they have “credible information” about a threat to American citizens attending the markets during the festive season.
They say that Islamic terrorists are planning to hit popular markets and churches as millions of people across the UK, France and Germany gear up for Christmas.
The US state department warned: “Credible information indicates the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS or Da’esh), al-Qaeda, and their affiliates continue to plan terrorist attacks in Europe, with a focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events.
US citizens should also be alert to the possibility that extremist sympathisers or self-radicalised extremists may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning.
“Terrorists may employ a wide variety of tactics, using both conventional and non-conventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests.
“US citizens should exercise vigilance when attending large holiday events, visiting tourist sites, using public transportation, and frequenting places of worship, restaurants, hotels, etc.
