Three ISIS Operatives Arrested Today Are Engineering Graduates, One Pursuing PhD From Jamia Millia Islamia
In a recent anti-terrorist operation targeting the ISIS network, law enforcement authorities apprehended three individuals possessing engineering backgrounds and proficiency in bomb-making, as revealed by the Delhi Police.
Senior officer H G S Dhaliwal of the Delhi Police Special Cell provided details, identifying one of the detained suspects as Mohammad Shahnawaz, a figure on the National Investigation Agency’s most-wanted list.
The other two arrested individuals were identified as Shahnawaz’s associates, Mohammed Rizwan Ashraf and Mohammed Arshad Warsi.
Shahnawaz was apprehended in Delhi’s Jaitpur, while Rizwan and Arshad were caught in Lucknow and Moradabad, respectively, both located in Uttar Pradesh.
Law enforcement officers recovered a pistol, bomb-making materials, chemicals, and extremist literature of Pakistani origin during a search of Shahnawaz’s hideout in Delhi.
These suspects maintained regular communication with their ISIS handler, furnishing reports consistently.
Shahnawaz hails from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and is educated in mining engineering, possessing expertise in engineering blasts.
Arshad also originates from Jharkhand, with a BTech in mechanical engineering from Aligarh University. He had been pursuing a doctorate at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi.
Rizwan holds a BTech in computer science and is originally from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He also underwent training as a cleric.
Dhaliwal emphasised that the recent crackdown has exposed a widespread ISIS network operating across India.
