The Islamic State frees Kurdish captive after ransom paid in Qara Tapa

The Islamic State (IS) jihadists on Monday freed a Kurdish captive in Qara Tapa after a ransom was paid, a police officer has confirmed.

Speaking to BasNews, Hikmat Hassan, a police officer in Qara Tapa, explained that the Kurdish man had been abducted alongside eight other people since late January.

The extremists agreed to release him on Monday after a ransom of $40,000 was paid to them, he said.

The jihadists earlier last month abducted eight Kurdish people and killed one of them soon after, Hassan said, identifying the victim as Mohammed Samin.

At least two other captives were freed a few days ago, according to the police officer.

“Another four abductees are still held hostage by the terrorists of Daesh,” Hassan said, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.
