Three Islamic State terrorists detained hiding among refugees in Anbar Pronvince
Security troops have arrested three Islamic State members during an operation, east of Ramadi, a local source from Anbar province said on Wednesday.
“Troops carried out a campaign at refugee camps at al-Habbaniya region, east of Ramadi, after intelligence authorities gathered information that some militants sneaked into the camps,” the source told SNG website.
“Three militants were arrested during the campaign. They were able to infiltrate into the camps after counterfeiting their identity cards,” the source added. “The forces transferred the detainees, under tight measures, to one of the detention cells for investigations.”
Thousands of IS militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition, was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group.
In December, Abadi announced full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.
Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, have been fighting since October 2016 to retake territories Islamic State had occupied.
