Terrorists kill nine in Kaduna, six die in Benue attack
Suspected terrorists have reportedly killed at least nine in Ungwan Dakwa village around the Dogo Dawa ward of the troubled Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident, it was learnt, took place on Saturday about 2pm when the hoodlums raided the community, shooting indiscriminately.
There was no official confirmation from either the state government or the state police command as of the time of filing this report.
However, a House of Assembly member-elect, Yahaya Birnin-Gwari, confirmed the attack.
Birnin-Gwari said scores of the villagers also sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to neighbouring Funtua in Katsina State where they were currently receiving medical attention.
“Most of the victims and injured ones have been taken to the hospital. There was no security presence in that village. Most of the soldiers were camped at Dogon Dawa ward. Moreso, that place has no telecommunication network to communicate to security agencies during the attack,” the lawmaker-elect said.
He added that most villagers had fled their homes following the attack, leaving the community deserted.
When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Jalige, could not confirmed the incident as he did not take the call placed to his mobile telephone and did not respond to the text message either.
Also, six people were reportedly killed by suspected armed Fulani herders at Akpete community in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a resident, who identified himself as Sunny, the suspected herders stormed the community on Saturday and launched an attack, during a woman was allegedly raped.
The latest attack came barely a week after three villages, Akpanta, Ochumeko and Ijaha, in the same local government witnessed severe attacks by suspected herders who burnt down several houses and also killed three people in Ijaha village.
Just last Tuesday in Guma Local Government Area, six people, including three personnel of the State Community Volunteers Guards and a hunter, were killed between Ortese and Ngban villages.
Speaking on the latest attack, the National Chairman of Apa Development Association, Eche Akpoko, who was contacted on the phone on Sunday said that six people were killed in the attack.
He said, “It’s a continuous thing (attack) as I told you people at a press conference recently. It’s a very sad development.
“Yesterday (Saturday) they (armed herders) attacked Akpete at about 6pm. By this morning, the number of casualties stands at six but we are not definite about the number yet as they keep discovering corpses from corners and bushes.
“As of this morning, the report, I got was that they have discovered six corpses.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer for the State Command, Catherine Anene, said she had yet to receive a report on the incident.
