ISIS terrorists killed 60 US-backed fighters in eastern Syria
At least 60 U.S.-backed fighters were killed by Daesh (ISIS) and 30 more were taken captive in the past two days as clashes intensified in eastern Deir Ezzor province, Amaq news agency said Sunday.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) pressed to uproot Daesh militants from their last pockets near the Iraqi border in major offensive this week.
But the radical group, on contrary, has showed stubborn and has advanced in the SDF areas, killing and wounding dozens.
In a savage propaganda video, Daesh has executed four SDF fighters from the Arab tribes.
Daesh warned Arab tribesmen in eastern Syrian of joining the ranks of the SDF and Kurdish militias.
Meanwhile, thousands of people have fled the town of al-Hajin as clashes intensify.
Daesh news feeds said 19 SDF fighters had been killed near the village of al-Sha’fah and al-Buhaira.
On Thursday, the SDF, backed by the US Army units, have arrested senior Daesh commanders in the villages of al-Buhaira and al-Tayyaneh near the town of al-Hajin. Three commanders were arrested, including the Security (Emir) official in al-Bsaira area.
The SDF said Daesh sleeper cells are still active in liberated areas. They claim that about 500 families have been receiving salaries from the ultra-hardline Sunni militant group.
Daesh has resorted to guerrilla tactics since it abandoned its goal of holding territory and creating a self-declared caliphate straddling Iraq and Syria.
