Islamic State terrorists destroyed electricity transmission tower southwest of Kirkuk
Islamic State members have exploded an electricity transmission tower, southwest of Kirkuk, a security source said on Thursday.
Speaking to Baghdad Today website, the source said “unidentified gunmen exploded an electricity transmission tower in a village in Hawija town, southwest of Kirkuk.”
The attack, according to the source, “is the 21st of its kind.”
“It left the tower totally destroyed,” the source added.
On Monday, The Iraqi Interior Ministry said ) two prominent Islamic State leaders were arrested in Hawija.Two people were killed, while a civilian was injured on Saturday in an attack carried out by Islamic State in a village in Hawija.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.
