ISIS terrorists kill, wound 5 civilians at Mosul bridge
Two civilians were killed and three others were wounded on Thursday when Islamic State gunmen shot at them in western Mosul, according to a security source.
Maj. Sallam al-Khaffaf, from Nineveh police service, told Kurdish-owned BasNews website that the civilians were passing through the “floating bridge” security forces had installed to link the city’s two sides during battles with the militant group.
Meanwhile, Federal Police chief, Shaker Jawdat, said in a statement that 47 Islamic State members have been killed and arrested since the start of July until present. He said police operations also managed to seize six booby-trapping workshops, 192 explosive belts, ten tons of ammonia nitrates and five barrels of C4, among other ammunitions.
Security forces continue to comb western Mosul areas for hidden IS cells since the city was declared under full government troops’ control early July. Since the declaration, IS has launched sporadic attacks against civilians and troops, while some militants have been caught trying to flee among refugees or across the Tigris River, which bisects the city.
