ISIS terrorists bring down the biggest Iraqi flag raised in south of Mosul
Islamic State militants have brought down the biggest Iraqi flag that was raised by Iraqi troops in a region in south of Mosul after liberation, a source from Nineveh police said on Monday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to BasNews, the source said the militants removed the biggest flag that was hoisted at Tal al-Sabt region in Hammam al-Alil. “Flyers that threaten raising the group’s flag again were distributed.”
“The militants also killed three personnel of the local police,” the source added without giving further details.
Last week, Brig. Gen. Wathiq al-Hamdani, Nineveh Police Chief, said nine IS members were arrested during the ongoing offensive carried out by the police command in cooperation with army and security services in one of the districts in Mosul.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi declared in July victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25,000 Islamic State militants were killed throughout the campaign. Abadi announced in December full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.
