ISIS terrorists assassinated village chief near Kirkuk
The Islamic State (IS) militants kidnapped the chief of Zabra village near Kirkuk’s Riyadh subdistrict overnight on Tuesday, said an official.
The victim’s body, identified as Ahmed Hamid Ubeid, was later found outside the village, according Mohammed Fayiq, former head of press office for Tuz Khurmatu mayor.
The official said that the crime was committed after the IS insurgents infiltrated the village in the darkness of the night.
The Iraqi government declared its entire territory liberated from IS last year in December. However, the jihadists are still active in various areas of Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salahaddin, and Anbar provinces.
Locals often hold the Iraqi army, security forces, and Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi responsible for the increasing IS terror attacks on civilians.
