Five more ISIS-linked terrorist suspects detained in Turkey’s city Adana
Police detained five suspects with links to ISIS terrorists in Konya province in counter-terror operations carried out in Turkey’s southern Adana province, as crackdown into the terrorist group’s network in the country continues.
Anti-terror squad from Adana Police reportedly raided a house in which five ISIS terrorists with links to Daesh terrorists planning attacks in Konya province, were detained.
The suspects were taken to the hospital for routine health check ups and were then brought to the police headquarter.
Security forces continue to search for five more Daesh-linked suspects, reports said.
On Wednesday, five Daesh terrorists engaged in a shootout with police were killed in Konya, while 233 people were captured in nationwide operations.
Daesh became one of the most active terrorist groups in Turkey over a span of just two years. It has been blamed for a string of attacks in Turkey, ranging from suicide bombings to gun attacks.
The country has deported over 5,000 Daesh suspects, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently said. The president said that Turkey also prohibited the entry of over 53,000 terrorist suspects and destroyed Daesh terrorists along the border, allowing 100,000 Syrians to return to their homes. “With Operation Euphrates Shield, we killed over 3,000 Daesh terrorists [in northern Syria],” Erdoğan said.
Daesh terror attacks in Turkey, which increased between July 2015 and August 2016 and caused the deaths of nearly 300 people, drastically decreased after the operation was launched on Aug. 24, 2016. After that date, Daesh has only been able to carry out one terror attack inside Turkish borders.
