Terrorist responsible for death of minor in Kashmir killed in an encounter with the security forces
The militant responsible for the death of an eight-year-old boy and a police personnel in the Bijbehara attack last week was killed Thursday night in Srinagar.
The Thursday night’s encounter in which Zahid Daas was killed at Malbagh area of Srinagar also led to the death of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier who was severely injured.
Daas is the same terrorist who was responsible for the deaths of eight-year-old Nihan Yawar and J&K police personnel Shamal Kumar during a militant attack on June 26 at Bijbehara, Anantnag.
Yawar, a resident of neighbouring Kulgam district, was travelling with his father for some personal work when he was hit by bullets fired by Daas at Padshahi Bagh bridge in Bijbehara area.
Daas, who belongs to the Jammu Kashmir Islamic State (JKIS), was targeting a road opening party of the CRPF. The attack resulted in the deaths of Yawar and Kumar but Daas was able to escape. The area was cordoned off and a hunt was launched to nab him. Six days later, Daas died in Thursday’s Malbagh encounter.
The Bijbehara attack drew widespread condemnation with National Conference vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah terming it a “dastardly” act.
“An innocent…boy is the latest victim of the violence in Kashmir. His death in a dastardly grenade attack…is tragic and condemned without reservation. May Allah grant him Jannat and his family strength at this difficult time,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
Reacting to the June 26 attack, the PDP had said, “The smallest coffins are the heaviest.”
