Islamic State terrorist killed while he was planting bomb northeast of Diyala
An Islamic State member was killed in an explosion as he was trying to plant a bomb, northeast of Diyala, a local source said on Sunday.
“An Islamic State member was killed while he was attempting to place a bomb on a road near Hamreen, northeast of Diyala,” the source told Mawazin News.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said “Islamic State now depends on planting bombs over the night due to having to hide in the morning fearing confrontations with security.”
Last week, several Islamic State members were killed as a bomb went off inside a vehicle, while passing by al-Bu Tarmish region, northeast of Diyala.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.
