One ISIS terrorist killed and six others are arrested east of Mosul
An Islamic State member was killed, while six others were arrested during confrontations against Islamic State, a source from Nineveh intelligence said on Thursday.
Speaking to BasNews, Lt. Gen. Thanoun Youness said “Nineveh intelligence killed an Islamic State member after opening fire against security troops in al-Zahraa region, east of Mosul.”
The troops, according to Youness, “extradited the arrested militants to the Iraqi judiciary after concluding investigations.”
On Wednesday, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said a terrorist cell composed of thirteen Islamic State members has been arrested, west of Mosul. Seven Islamic State militants were arrested, east of Mosul city, with one of them facing charges of assassinating security forces, the ministry said on Tuesday. Other 27 militants were arrested in an operation in Hammam al-Alil, south of the city, according to Nineveh police.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.
Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
