Four ISIS terrorist group members captured in Kirkuk
At least four members of the Islamic State (IS) were captured in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk on Monday, a spokesperson confirmed.
Al-Maalomah news agency cited a statement by Interior Ministry spokesperson, M.G Saad Maan, as explaining that the four jihadists were arrested by the Iraqi forces in the IDP camps in Kirkuk, adding that they were already wanted by the court.
According to the official, the insurgents had most probably fled to Kirkuk after the liberation of Hawija near the city.
Officials in Kirkuk had already warned of deteriorated situation in southern and western of the province and called for reinforcements to the area.
Islamic State was declared defeated in Iraq in late 2017, but the extremist group’s sleeper cells are still active in most liberated regions in the country.
