Terrorist killed in military operation in northwestern Pakistan
Security forces killed a terrorist and arrested another in Pakistan’s northwestern district of Swat, the Pakistani military said.
An army statement said on Wednesday that security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Kanju area of Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on confirmation of presence of terrorists.
“During exchange of fire terrorist Mukarram (was) killed while (one) terrorist apprehended,” the statement from the army’s media wing Inter-Service Public Relations said.
Due to terrorists firing, two local civilian pedestrians were also killed, according to the statement.
The army said both of the terrorists belonged to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and remained involved in terrorist activities against security forces, the law enforcement agencies, demolition of schools, extortion and targeting killing.
Swat had once been the stronghold of the TTP, but the security forces conducted a major operation in 2009 to clear the militants.
