ISIS terrorist plot to attack Kadhimiya on Ashura foiled
Iraq’s interior ministry said a plot by a ISIS terrorist cell to carry out an attack in the holy city of Kadhimiya on the day of Ashura has been foiled.
The ministry said in a statement that members of the terrorist cell were killed by security forces.
In a preventive operation, the counter-terrorism forces of the country managed to identify and kill the Takfiri terrorists who intended to carry out a suicide attack in Kadhimiya on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram when a large number of Shia pilgrims converge on the holy city to hold mourning rituals.
Iraq has mobilized all its security and military forces to ensure security during Muharram.
Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions.
They were martyred in the Battle of Karbala on the Day of Ashura in the year 680 AD.
