ISIS terrorist group took control of the Baghdad-Damascus highway
The Islamic State (IS) has reportedly taken control of the strategic highway connecting Iraqi and Syrian capital cities, a source said.
Speaking to Quds al-Arabi newspaper on Saturday, the source stated that the IS jihadists attacked the Syrian regime forces two days earlier, and eventually retook the control over the road between Baghdad and Damascus.
According to the source, a large number of casualties has been reported from both sides.
The extremists also attacked local armed forces in the area who were supporting Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The source claimed that the IS insurgents have recently captured some other strategic spots in Syria, apparently eyeing the oilfields in hopes of resuming large-scale activities across the region.
