Kurds release ISIS terrorist captives to join battle against the Turkish army
The sources declared that the Kurdistan Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is considered as the YPG’s political wing, and the PKK had released all ISIL prisoners after they agreed to fight against the Turkish army and Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants in Syria’s Afrin region.
Also, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that it was studying the possibility of deploying reinforcements to the Afrin region to help fend off the Turkish offensive.
“We are checking to see if we can send any more military forces to Afrin,” SDF Spokesman Kino Gabriel said in a televised interview.
A Turkish media outlet reported on Monday that the Turkish armed forces advanced into Azaz region East of Afrin within the framework of the Olive Branch Operation in Northern Syria.
The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the Turkish army continued its ground assault as the Olive Branch Operation entered its third day.
Anadolu said that the army men advanced into the Azaz region too to expand the scope of the operation.
President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey would not take a step back from the operation in the Afrin region. He also said that Ankara had an agreement with Russia regarding its military operation against a US-backed Kurdish militia.
Speaking at an Ankara Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony, Erdogan stressed that he wants to support the national security and territorial integrity of Syria as Turkey “has no designs on territories of another country.”
