Three ISIS-linked terrorist suspects arrested in southern Turkey
Turkish security forces on Wednesday arrested three people in the southern Mersin province over suspected links to the ISIS terrorist organization.
According to a statement by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Mersin, the three suspected ISIS members were arrested in the Tomuk neighborhood of Mersin’s Erdemli district as part of an ongoing operation against Daesh members who reportedly illegally entered Turkey.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the provincial gendarmerie command.
The suspects are thought to be part of what has been termed the “execution unit” for the terror group, the statement added.
During the operation, security forces seized digital material and documents.
Turkish security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to thwart Daesh attacks.
More than 300 people lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket and gun attacks.
