ISIS terrorist group is still active around Makhmour
Nearly a hundred members of the Islamic State (IS) militant group are currently hiding in the areas around Makhmour district in southwest Erbil, a Peshmerga commander said on Sunday.
“The majority of the Daesh members in this area are foreign, they also have their wives and children with them, while they are provided with medical and food supplies by some villagers in the area,” Yadgar Garmiyani, a Peshmerga commander in the area, told Kurdistan 24.
Garmiyani further explained that a US originated militant is leading the insurgents who are hiding around the Qarachogh mountains near Makhmour, adding that they, from time to time, carry out terrorist activities against the Iraqi forces, but have not been able to harm the Peshmerga forces.
He also revealed that the extremists have lately went door to door in the villages claiming their “active presence” in the region.
