Terror cops raid suspected bomb factory in Paris

Two people have been arrested after officers found items that could be used to make a devastating explosive in a Paris flat.

Gas bottles and other components were found in the suburb of Villejulf, which could be used to make TATP explosives.

TATP is a highly-unstable and easy-to-make bomb that has previously been used by terrorists across Europe in recent years.

Variants of the explosive were used in the Manchester Arena terror attack in May, Brussels in 2016 and Paris in 2015.

The pair were arrested as they were driving a small van that belongs to one of the flat’s tenants, a police source said.

According to a police source cops carried out the raid following a tip-off from a locksmith who saw chemical materials and tools when he looked into the flat.

France’s counter-terrorism prosecutor is in charge of the investigation, a judicial source said.

It is the second major incident to rock the French capital this month.

The Eiffel Tower and the Eurostar terminal at the Gare du Nord were evacuated amid a swoop by police.

Staff shut the iconic tower and nearby tourists were kept inside the structure as cops cleared the surrounding area.
