Teenager Santos Colon admits to ISIS-inspired plot to kill the Pope Francis
Santos Colon, now 17, pled guilty to attempting to provide support for terrorists on Monday (April 3). Prosecutors say he attempted to hire a sniper to shoot the Pope during mass, when he was just 15 years old.
The plot was reportedly inspired by Isis and included a plan to set off a series of bombs in Philadelphia whilst the religious leader visited the city, according to the New York Post.
Prosecutors also claimed the man found instructions on how to make bombs and shared them on social media.
He was caught as the man he had hired to shoot the Pope was actually an undercover FBI agent.
As Colon has pled guilty, prosecutors said he will not now face other charges arraigned against him – those of attempting to obtain a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide support to ISIS.
However he still faces up to 15 years in prison as he has been charged as an adult.
