Taliban promised to eliminate the Islamic State in Afghanistan
The Taliban’s peace agreement with the USA was not supported by all members of the movement. Against this background, in the eastern province of Kunar, Pakistani Inter-Agency Intelligence (ISI) agents, representatives of the Islamic State and Al Qaeda launched a campaign to attract the Taliban into their ranks, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing EurAsia news agency.
“Pakistani intelligence and al-Qaeda have launched efforts to recruit Taliban militants and commanders,” said provincial governor Abdul Sattar Mirzakval.
Representatives of the council of the Kunar province believe that the Taliban, who are disappointed in the decision of the leadership, can also join the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. In addition, the Taliban, who abandoned ties with al-Qaeda, are likely to renew them.
Representatives of the Taliban reacted sharply to these assumptions, perceiving them as an attempt to defame themselves. They published a special statement in which they expressed their intention to eradicate ISIS in Afghanistan. This statement was praised by US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad.
“I welcome the Taliban’s statement condemning the Islamic State and expressing its commitment to stop any Islamic State’s attempts to“ recruit, raise funds and train militants “in Afghanistan,” the special representative said. “The statement by the Taliban on the Islamic State and their recent operations against terrorists in Kunar are positive steps.”
Khalilzad also expressed concern about the continuation of the Taliban attacks against the Afghan security forces and said that the US side is seeking to reduce violence.
According to EADaily, according to a peace agreement with the United States concluded in Doha on February 29, the Taliban pledged not to attack the US military in Afghanistan. In exchange, the United States must withdraw its troops from the country, and President Ashraf Ghani, whose regime is considered by the Taliban puppet, to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners.
