Syrian Democratic Forces captured Islamic State sleeper cell in Deir ez-Zor

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday that it had captured an Islamic State (IS) sleeper cell in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor.

The cell was captured during an operation by the forces of Deir Al-Zour Military Council based on accurate intelligence information, a statement said. The military campaign was carried out in the town Al-Basrah, Deir ez-Zor.

The forces also managed to seize weapons and modern communications equipment during the operation, the statement explained.

The Syrian Kurdish forces, backed by the US-led international coalition, played a key role in defeating the Islamic State in Syria in the past few years.
