The number of Swedish ISIS supporters go from hundreds to thousands

According to a Swedish Security Services report (Säpo), Islamic State sympathizers have increased from hundreds to thousands, Sverige Radio reports.

Säpo chief Anders Thornberg says the unprecedented spike in numbers of potential IS recruits is proportionate to the volume of propaganda produced by the so-called Islamic State terrorist group. Säpo’s investigation also takes into account over 6,000 tips from the public and the results of active surveillance.

The rise of Islamic terrorist ideology is focused on main urban centers, including Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Örebro. Although the phenomenon is mainly linked to jihadist groups, that appears to be part of a wider trend of accepting violence as a legitimate means to political ends.
