Man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences as cops raid Birmingham address

A man has been arrested after anti-terror police raided a Birmingham address.

The 36-year-old was arrested this morning on suspicion of terrorism offences, in a pre-planned and intelligence-led operation.

Another 35-year-old man was also arrested in a raid on a Doncaster address.

Both men are being held at a West Midlands Police station on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute terrorist publications.

A statement from West Midlands Police read: “Two men have been arrested today (Tuesday, March 26) on suspicion of terrorism offences.

“The arrests took place in Birmingham and Doncaster by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit with the support of South Yorkshire Police.

“A 36-year-old man from Birmingham and a 35-year-old man from Doncaster were both arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute terrorist publications.

“They are being questioned by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at a police station in the West Midlands.

“The arrests were pre-planned and intelligence-led.

“Searches at addresses in Birmingham and Doncaster are ongoing.”
