ISIS suicide bombers in Humvees attack Iraqi police base
Islamic State suicide bombers targeting a police base have killed at least 30 troops in western Anbar province.
Officials said three Isis militants drove Humvees seized from the Iraq army into a police base in the Tharthar area. The attacks caused a large explosion in an ammunition depot inside the base.
Police said Shia militiamen were also stationed in the base. More than 40 troops were wounded in the attack. Hospital officials confirmed the casualties.
Iraqi security forces have been battling Isis in Anbar province in an attempt to recapture lost territory including the provincial capital, Ramadi.
On Sunday, the Iraqi prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, said Iraqi security forces had lost 2,300 Humvees to Isis when the jihadi group overran the northern city of Mosul in June last year.
