31 people dead in double ISIS suicide bomb blasts near rock restaurant and court palace
The first suicide bomber targeted the Palace of Justice in Damascus – killing 31 people by detonating a bomb in the lobby.
The second suicide blast struck a restaurant in the al-Rabweh area of Damascus to the west of the first attack causing several casualties.
Footage from inside the courthouse showed the blood-splattered floor littered with bodies.
The attacks come on the sixth anniversary of the Syrian uprising which sparked the bloody Syrian Civil War.
The explosion hit the courthouse “at a time when the area is crowded” with lawyers, judges and civilians, Ahmed al-Sayyid, a senior state official told state-run TV.
State news agency SANA cited the Damascus police as saying that there were 102 injured in the courthouse attack and 28 injured in the restaurant.
The suicide blasts happened four days after a twin bomb blast near Bab al-Saghir cemetery in Damascus – killing 40.
