Suicide attack on PMF headquarters in Salah Al-Din thwarted
A security source reported on Tuesday that a suicide attack targeting the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Salah Al-Din governorate had been thwarted.
The source told Shafaq News that a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt tried to break into a PMF headquarters in the city of Tikrit in Salah Al-Din, but the gate guards killed him before reaching his target.
Security and intelligence personnel arrived at the scene and intensified precautionary measures at all PMF headquarters in Salah Al-Din.
According to the source, the suicide attack was a reaction to the PMF’s extensive security operations against ISIS hideouts in the governorate.
The attack is considered the first of its kind, as no suicide attacks have been taking place in the Iraqi governorate for many years.
Iraq announced in late 2017 the liberation of all its territories from the grip of ISIS, but the authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group that carry out attacks from time to time in the country.
