Spain arrests 2 alleged Daesh supporters in joint operation with Moroccan intelligence
The Spanish National Police announced on Friday the arrest of two individuals in northern Spain suspected of supporting the terrorist organisation Daesh.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), led to arrests in Itsasondo (Guipúzcoa) and Avilés (Asturias).
The suspects are accused of indoctrination, spreading terrorist propaganda, and inciting violence.
Investigations revealed that the individuals had been under close surveillance since the beginning of the year, following suspicious social media activity supporting Daesh and promoting violence.
The operation, directed by Spain’s Central Court of Investigation and coordinated with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court, benefited from critical support from the DGST, with authorities highlighting that this collaboration has facilitated the arrest of numerous terrorists over recent years.
The police emphasized that international cooperation is “essential” for an effective counter-terrorism strategy.
This partnership illustrates a firm commitment to combating terrorism within Spain and abroad, reinforcing a “strategic priority” for the national police, as underscored in their statement.
