Two soldiers and one Maute Group terrorist killed in Lanao Del Sur clash
Two soldiers and a Maute terrorist were killed in a gunfight here, the military said Tuesday.
The encounter in Barangay Padas started around 3 p.m. on Monday and continued well into the night, according to the disaster management office.
Troops on Tuesday morning were still chasing after the Maute group.
Aside from the 3 fatalities, a soldier was wounded in the clash, said Col. Romeo Brawner, commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade.
No other details were immediately available.
Residents fled to neighboring Tubaran town and other areas where rescue teams have been put on alert, the disaster office said, adding that it has no tally yet of those affected.
The Maute, which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, laid siege to the southern city of Marawi in 2017, prompting a declaration of martial law over the whole Mindanao until the end of this year.
