Soldier Injured Amid Fierce Firefight as Troops Foil Terror Infiltration in Jammu
A soldier sustained injuries during a fierce exchange of gunfire as military troops successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Battal Sector of Jammu. The White Knight Corps reported that the incident occurred during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, stating “Operations are ongoing in the area.”
“Alert troops effectively engaged the infiltrating terrorists at 0300 hours,” detailed the White Knight Corps on platform X. “Heavy fire was exchanged, resulting in one soldier being injured. Ongoing operations are in place,” the Corps added. Earlier, the terrorists had attacked a Village Development Committee (VDC) in Gunda, Rajouri, sparking an intense firefight with security forces.
Responding to the VDC attack, a nearby Army column engaged the terrorists, leading to a gun battle, as confirmed by the White Knight Corps in another post on X, “Op Gunda: Terrorists attacked the house of a VDC in Gunda at 0310 hours. A nearby Army column responded and a firefight followed.”
Over recent months, the Jammu region has seen a surge in terror activities, including attacks on an army convoy in Kathua and numerous encounters in Doda and Udhampur. On Thursday, Indian Army troops opened fire following suspicious activity near the Line of Control in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district.
In a separate encounter, two army soldiers were injured while confronting terrorists in Doda’s Kastigarh area on Thursday. This clash followed a deadly encounter in Doda on Tuesday that resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, including an officer.
On July 15, based on intelligence inputs, a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police took place north of Doda. Contact with the terrorists was established around 9 pm, leading to a heavy firefight in which four soldiers, including Captain Brijesh Thapa, were killed. The following day, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifice for regional peace.
