Slovenian authorities declared Hezbollah as a terrorist organization
Slovenia is the latest to join EU countries in classifying Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
The Central European country had already banned Hezbollah’s military wing and now continued to ban its political wing, ending the differentiation between both factions.
On Monday, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia decided to adopt a decision on treating Hezbollah as a whole as “a criminal and terrorist organization posing a threat to peace and security,” announced Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Hezbollah’s activities are intertwined with organized crime and the conduct of terrorist or paramilitary activities on a global scale,” added the ministry in its statement.
The country joins over 65 countries that have designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. EU countries have already designated the group’s armed faction as a terrorist organization, but many have gone to ban the entity as a whole.
Earlier this year, Germany, Lithuania, Estonia, Serbia, and The Netherlands all made the same move.
