Six Somali soldiers killed by landmine blast near Bal’ad
At least six Somali soldiers were killed and several others wounded after their military vehicle ran over a landmine near the town of Balád, some 36 kilometres northeast of the capital, Mogadishu.
There has been intense fighting in the area in the last few days between the Somali National Army (SNA) and fighters from the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab.
On 5 October, the SNA captured the village of Basra, located on the outskirts of Bal’ad town in Middle Shabelle, from the militant group.
The capture followed a brief fighting in Basra, and a more intense battle earlier in the day between Basra and Daniga between the SNA soldiers and Al-Shabaab fighters.
