Sirozhiddin Mukhtarov is a Kyrgyz citizen, nicknamed Abu Salah al-Uzbeki is believed to be the mastermind of the terrorist attack in St. Petersburg.
Law enforcement officers of Kyrgyzstan specified that Mukhtarov is an ethnic Uighur who indicated in the passport Uzbek nationality.
In the early 2000s, he received a theological education in Syria. Having returned to Kyrgyzstan, he worked as an assistant to an Imam in one of the mosques in Osh. In 2012, in Syria, he joined Kathibat Imam al-Bukhari group and created Katiba Tawhid Wal-Jihad from its supporters.
Terror Activities:
According to the intelligence services, he is wanted by Interpol for organizing a suicide attack against the Chinese embassy in Bishkek.
Prosecutor Nadezhda Tikhonova stated that Sirozhiddin Mukhtarov, the alleged customer of the terrorist attack on the St. Petersburg metro, according to the investigation is currently in Syrian Idlib. But also, it is believed that Mukhtarov’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
Mukhtarov is reportedly accused of 12 crimes of terrorist nature, including the organization of a terrorist community, illegal manufacture of weapons, the promotion of terrorist activities and a number of others. Law enforcement officers of Kyrgyzstan specified that Mukhtarov is an ethnic Uighur who indicated in the passport Uzbek nationality.
It is known in Bishkek that he was connected with the Uigur terrorist groups, which are at war in Syria and are related to Al-Qaeda and Jabhat al-Nusra.
