Woman armed with box cutter knife ‘shouted Allahu Akbar’ as she stabbed two shoppers

A woman dressed in black “shouted Allahu Akbar” as she stabbed two people in a supermarket in France.

The incident took place at the E. Leclerc supermarket in La Seyne-sur-Mer in southeastern France.

According to local media reports, the woman was armed with a box cutter knife and stabbed one customer in the chest while a cash register employee was injured in the eye.

Authorities have said the customer was hospitalised with a chest injury after the attack at 10.30am on Sunday morning.

BFMTV reported that the suspect, who was reportedly dressed in black and wearing a veil, was quickly controlled by supermarket staff.

Toulon prosecutor Bernard Marchal said the woman has been detained and added that she may have been radicalised.

He said: “This is an apparently isolated incident by a person with a history of psychiatric disorders.

“However, we cannot ruled out the possibility that she was radicalised.

“There is presumption of attempted murder, and apology for crime with a terrorist connotation.

“We do not know yet if these facts are terrorists but they are in any case terrorising, because this man who had not asked anything was attacked at the cash desk of a supermarket.”

Law enforcement are currently looking into whether the woman has any links to Islamic State.

She was born in France in 1994 and was not previously known to intelligence authorities.
