Shamima Begum fears she will be executed over support for Islamic State

Shamima Begum fears she will face the death penalty over her support for ISIS.

Allegations reportedly made against the Jihadi bride include helping to make suicide vests for ISIS terrorists, something Ms Begum has previously denied doing.

Trials of male Syrian and Iraqi ISIS fighters held by the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Force have already begun, with women set to be tried later this Summer.

Speaking about the possibility of being tried in Syria, Ms Begum told the Mail on Sunday: “No, no, I don’t want that, that can’t happen. I don’t want to be tried in Syria.”

While a source told The Sun: “Begum has convinced herself she’ll pay the ultimate price if she is tried and found guilty of terrorism offences in Syria.

“She’s very frightened and concerned.

“She’s been told she will be put on trial in Rojava, probably as one of a group of women accused of terrorist offences.

“She hasn’t been given a date yet but has been told it will be in around September or October.

“Rojava authorities don’t advocate the death penalty but that has failed to convince her she won’t escape such a punishment.

“And even if she does, she’s facing a life jail sentence.”

Ms Begum, who fled her east London home for Syria as a 15-year-old schoolgirl more than six years ago, attempted to restore her British citizenship last year.

But her bid was rejected by the Supreme Court.
