Seven Yezidis freed from ISIS captivity in Iraq and Syria
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Directorate of Yezidi Abductees’ Affairs stated that seven Kurdish Yezidis have been rescued from Islamic State (IS) over the past 24 hours.
Hussein Qaidi, head of the directorate, told BasNews “a woman aged 30 along with her four children from Solaghi area of Sinjar and another woman aged 24 from Tel Banat were freed from the grip of the IS terrorists in Syria on Monday.”
He stated an 8-year-old girl was also freed in Mosul, adding that all the survivors arrived in Duhok Province to be reunited with their families.
All the Yezidi survivors need treatment and rehabilitation since they have suffered severely in the captivity of the militants, Qaidi explained.
The IS militants swept through the Yezidi hometown of Sinjar on August 3, 2014. They massacred hundreds of Yezidis and abducted over six thousand others, mostly women and children. Nearly three thousand Yezidis are still remaining in the hands of the IS extremists in Iraq and Syria.
