Senior Islamic State member captured in Iraq
A senior member of the Islamic State (IS) has been captured in Iraq, while the Ministry of Defense said that the jihadist was involved in the genocide against the religious minority group of Yezidis.
The ministry explained in a statement that the senior insurgent was identified as Hazim Mohammed Abdullah Qasim who was called Abu Hajar by his fellows.
He was accused of “direct” involvement in raping and killing of Yezidi women.
He was arrested cooperatively with the Police Directorate in Baaj based on intelligence information, the press release noted.
The extremist group of IS in mid-2014, attacked Sinjar and killed hundreds of Yezidis, while abducting over 6,000 others, the majority of whom were women and children from the region.
